Repairs or Replacement – How to Make the Decision

One thing that has Steinbach homeowners on edge is trying to make sure that they do not get duped into getting service that they do not need, and rightfully so. No one wants to pay more money for a more extensive service than they actually need. You want to be able to trust a heating and cooling company, yet you don’t want to get steered in the wrong direction.

What is the Right Choice for You?

If you are faced with the option to repair or replace and are worried the “professional” you are working with may be making suggestions in for his or her own personal gain, here are some things to keep in mind:

Consider the age of the system. Know the life expectancy of the system you have, as well as how far along your own system is. If you are near or past that lifespan, it would probably make more sense to opt for replacement. Investing more money into an already outdated heating and cooling unit doesn’t make sense.

Know the current value of your heating and cooling system and compare this to the repair costs you are facing. As a rule of thumb, if your repairs will cost you 50% or more than the current value of your system, it usually makes more sense financially to replace it instead.

It is also about the repairs you have already invested, and any that may be looming on the horizon in the near future. In other words, if your system has become a bit of a money pit, the more cost-effective alternative solution would be to opt for replacement.
